Migration of legacy system to a cloud-based architecture for improved business scalability

May 23, 2023

Project Overview

Modernized in-store systems built on Cloud-based microservices architecture

Confiz partners with America’s largest retail chain to migrate in-store legacy services to a cloud-based microservices architecture for their pharmaceutical division.

The need

Modernizing legacy in-store systems to achieve operational agility

America’s leading retail chain faced the challenge of a legacy in-store system for its pharmaceutical division. The existing monolithic architecture impeded the client’s ability to scale and adapt to the growing customer demands. In addition, aging infrastructure made implementing modern security measures and meeting industry compliance standards difficult. As a result, the legacy systems became expensive to maintain and upgrade, causing the company to incur significant operational costs. Additionally, adding new functionalities to the existing monolithic application took more work, causing the company to lag behind its competitors in innovation and agility.

The Solution

Migrating to a Cloud-native microservices architecture

Confiz helped the client overcome legacy system challenges by migrating its in-store systems to a cloud-based microservices architecture using Microsoft Azure and IBM DataPower. The project management team analyzed the client’s existing systems, processes, and infrastructure and set high-level objectives to follow a cloud-first strategy. A modular implementation approach was followed to cause minimum disruption to the client’s existing system.

Team Confiz also designed a modular, cloud-native architecture and used Azure Kubernetes Service to deploy and manage containerized microservices. IBM DataPower was implemented to facilitate communication between microservices and external services. Rigorous testing ensured a smooth transition and optimized the new infrastructure for maximum performance. Azure Monitor and DataPower’s monitoring capabilities were used to track application performance and identify issues.
